"The Three Little Javelinas" by Susan Lowell

1. Discuss what we have read in the story so far.
2. Listen to the next section of the story.
3. Listen and answer questions about the section.
4. Listen to instructions for charting words.
5. Participate in searching for and charting words.
6. Listen to instructions for the lab page.
7. Do the lab page on her/his own.

Materials:
"Enjoy" Book (Language Arts book)
Language Arts Lab book (page 24)
Chart paper
Easel
Markers

Procedures:
1. Call the students to the rug with their "Enjoy" book.
2. Discuss what has happened in the story so far.
3. Have the students predict what will happen next.
4. Read pages 76-79 in the book (taking random comments from the students.)
5. Ask suggested questions from the teacher's book.
6. Pull out the -ed and -ing words chart.
7. Ask the students to turn to pages 37-59, "The Three Little Wolves and The Big Bad Pig," and look for words that end in -ed or -ing." Chart their words.
8. Show and explain how to do Lab 24.
9. Send them back and ask the "Helper" to pass out the Lab Books.

Assessment:
The students will be observed for comprehension during the read aloud. Their Lab 24 will also be graded.
